William and Minnette Goldsmith's legacy and passion for giving back continues through the William and Minnette Goldsmith Foundation and its annual grantmaking.

In 1951, William and Minnette (Luntz) Goldsmith created the William and Minnette Goldsmith Foundation to support charitable causes in the community. The Foundation later became a supporting foundation of Stark Community Foundation in 1999 and awards grants on an annual basis to Stark County nonprofits.

The Goldsmiths

William Goldsmith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and later studied mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. As his career developed, he became a nationally-recognized expert on alloy scrap and scrap metal and was eventually sought out by the Luntz Corporation in Canton. William joined the Luntz Iron & Steel Co. as one of the owners in January 1918 and soon thereafter became executive vice president. Through this career opportunity and corresponding relocation, he met and fell in love with Minnette Luntz.

Minnette (Luntz) Goldsmith was a life-long resident of Canton and a member of the Temple Israel, Temple Sisterhood, Hadassah, Canton Women’s Club, Arrowhead Country Club and the Canton Art Institute (now known as Canton Museum of Art). She served as president of the William and Minnette Goldsmith Foundation.

William passed away in 1961, and Minnette passed away in 1979. Their legacy and passion for giving back continues today through the William and Minnette Goldsmith Foundation.
